I went into Twisted Love fully convinced I was above it. Billionaire romance, brother's best friend, ice-cold hero with a dark secret — I have read this song before. And then Alex Volkov looked at Ava like she was both his salvation and his ruin, and I completely lost my principles.
Here's the thing: the forbidden pull between them works. It really works. The whole 'I've sworn to protect her and now I can't stop watching her' energy is executed with enough intensity that I forgave a lot of other things I probably shouldn't have. The slow unravelling of a man who has spent years building walls is the entire reason BookTok is obsessed with this trope, and Ana Huang knows exactly how to use it. The problem is everything around that central tension. The pacing wobbles. Some of the conflict felt manufactured. The resolution tied up a little too neatly for the emotional weight the first half was reaching for.
I gave it two stars, but I want to be clear — those two stars came with a racing pulse and several late nights. This is not the book I'd reach for on a careful reading day. It's the one I'd press into the hands of a friend who needs something consuming and a little unhinged on a rainy Saturday. No fantasy, no apologies, just a deeply dangerous man falling apart over one woman.

What got me was the restraint. Rhys is not performing indifference — he actually believes he has no right to want what he wants. And Bridget, for all her fire, is trapped in a life built around duty. The forbidden pull between them is not just circumstantial. It is structural. Every time they get close, the world around them has a reason they shouldn't. That kind of tension, the slow accumulation of almost-moments and pulled-back hands, is exactly the thing I live for when I am writing Saelynn and Kade. Ana Huang earns the payoff because she makes you wait for it properly.
The forced proximity does its job without feeling contrived, and the touch-starved energy Rhys carries throughout is the kind of quiet ache that sits with you after you close the book. I rated this a four because one or two of the external conflict beats felt a little tidy for how messy the emotional core was. But honestly? As a reading experience it delivered. If you are someone who needs the slow burn to feel genuinely dangerous before it feels earned, this one is for you.

I went in with my arms crossed. Contemporary romance, no magic, no dying empires, no one learning to trust someone while the world actively punishes them for it. Just two people who can't stand each other and a lot of charged silences in very small spaces. And honestly? The first third hooked me more than I expected. The enemies-with-benefits setup between Josh and Jules is fun. He is charming in the way that makes you suspicious of him, and she is ambitious in the way that makes her suspicious of herself. The banter moves fast and it earns a few genuine laughs.
But somewhere in the middle I lost the thread. The tension between them relies heavily on misunderstanding and avoidance rather than anything structural keeping them apart, and for me that's where it slipped. The slow burn needs weight behind it. Longing without stakes just reads as delay.
Two stars, because I finished it and I don't regret the afternoon I gave it. It's a solid pick if you like sharp contemporary banter and you are not precious about the emotional architecture underneath. If you are a fantasy reader wandering over on a whim though, this one probably won't follow you home.

I went into Twisted Lies fully prepared to be unbothered. Billionaire romance isn't usually my thing, and I told myself I was reading it purely for research. Famous last words.
Christian Harper is the kind of man who is genuinely unsettling in the best possible way at first. Morally grey, obsessive in that quiet controlled fashion, watching Stella from a distance long before she knows he exists. That setup? Genuinely good. The forced proximity worked on me more than I wanted to admit, and there were moments where the tension between them felt properly charged. But somewhere in the second half, the balance tipped. The possessiveness that felt interesting in small doses started to feel like the whole personality. I wanted more of the slow unravelling and less of the grand gesture. The dark undertones promised something thornier than what landed.
I think if you love contemporary romance and you're not already fatigued by the billionaire archetype, you will probably have a great time with this. The writing is pacy, the pull between the leads is real, and Ana Huang clearly knows how to keep pages turning. This one just wasn't quite for me. I'd hand it to someone who wants their heart squeezed with a little menace on the side, but doesn't need the world to be on fire while it happens.
